In his latest body of geometric watercolors, Wet Geometry, Lister aims to breakdown, rearrange and reference iconic images from art history and pop culture. By flattening out and simplifying the referred images, he uses an angular method of visual processing to restructure and recompose familiar images. Lister’s curiosity in deciphering visual language fuels his artwork. Drawn to the hand-made and transparent qualities watercolors hold, Lister juxtaposes the medium’s soft washes of color with rigid drawing to render visually interesting compositions.
